According to a report in the Tehran Times, Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani warned of over-reliance on oil revenues and called for economic privatization. [Extract]
The EC chairman criticized the government for its excessive dependence on oil and gas revenues, adding that with an economy that is not diversified, fluctuations in oil revenues seriously affect the national budget. He also called for the effective privatization of state-run companies as envisaged in Article 44 of the Constitution, saying this is the right way to solve the country’s problems. “Legal obstacles have been removed” but the problem is properly managing the resources of the country’s private sector, Rafsanjani noted.
